Makeup Help!

I've used BareMinerals makeup for a few years now, and for some reason or another I don't think it looks as good as it used to! I feel like it either doesn't seem to cover enough, but if you put more it looks cakey/powdery. It is driving me insane! Not to mention that my face gets itchy if I get slightly warm {I've heard this from several people}.

What kind of makeup do you recommend? I'm open to all recommendations! I just want it to look smooth/cover/not look powdery but not look shiny either. Am I being picky?!

  1. Perfect timing on this post. Can you believe I was just Googling "Best foundations" right before I visited your blog. I'm in the same quandary. My mineral foundation (ColoreScience) is starting to look cakey and settling in my fine lines (dry weather isn't helping either). I need something with good coverage that won't make me look 60.

Before I started using ColoreScience (recommended by my derm.), I used Laura Mercier and Stilia. Both were very nice. I've also used Smashbox HD which I liked, but not as well as the two I mentioned above.

I'm headed to Sephora tomorrow to find a new foundation. Perhaps I will go back to one of those favorites (What I wouldn't give to know what Nicole Kidman uses. Hehehe...)

Keep us posted if you hear of a good one, too. I'm a make-up junkie and always looking for new products to try! :)

  2. I was the same way with Bare Mineral. I switched to Mary Kay (after trying Merle Norman too) mineral makeup and it's light and easy to wear- won't clog pores - but still has the BEST coverage and very matte - not shiny or talcy like Bare Minerals would sometimes be. I'm also a makeup-up and beauty product junky like Cool Gal so let me know too if you find something!

  4. I used to use Bare Minerals but stopped after having the same problems. Something just seemed different. I dont know if the quality went down or what, but it just wasnt workin anymore. I now use Palladio Duel Wet & Dry foundation. I dont need to use alot for great coverage! I love it!

  5. I was using bare minerals too for a long time and then I started feeling like it quit working. When I was shopping wedding make up a few years ago I got h to the ooked on MAC studio fix. The stuff is the jam. Not only that, one bottle lasts an entire "season" - I buy one tan/darker color (ahh the summer...) that takes me from like May to Sept and then one slightly lighter shade that takes me through the winter and early spring. And I still usually have some left in the bottle. When the girl @ MAC did my makeup, she didn't even use powder - even though its not a foundation powder per say. I still dust a litte loose powder on since I have oily skin - but this stuff is the goodness for sure.

  6. I use Benefit make-up. None of their products are heavy or cakey. I have never been disappointed in something new that I have tried. They have a great booth at Ulta. I highly recommend you try it.

  7. I used to religiously use BM, but it just started getting really 'meh' to me, and just looking icky in the summer time with the southern humidity. My face changed when I started using Dior AirFlash. It costs a pretty penny, but it's worth every single one of them!

  8. Thanks everyone for the comments! It helps a lot! My boyfriends sister uses Benefit and loves it... and I used to wear it in college. I always got compliments so I might need to try it again!

  9. I LOVE Benefit stuff! I love "that gal" primer. Sometimes I just wear that and nothing else.

  10. I use Laura Mercier and love it. Friends use Mally's foundation and they swear by it. Mally's eye pencils are the BEST.

  11. I also had the same problems with BareMinerals, not to mention that my skin started breaking out due to a couple years of use. I am now using Bobbi Brown illuminating finish powder, compact foundation. It's light like BareMinerals but provides more coverage. I have loved using it the past couple months!

  12. I would suggest trying Pur Minerals. I used to work at ULTA and I had the chance to try both. Pur Minerals is a similar product to BareMinerals (powder foundation with an SPF), but it is actually pressed, rather than loose. It lasts 3-4 months, depending on how many times you apply per day (sometimes I have to reapply if I have evening plans). Hope it helps!
